The Strange Old Man

It's a 16-page picture book.I created this story based on my own experience. <THE STRANGE OLD MAN> is the story of a young girl who tries to redeem hers elf after the death of a loved one. After her grandfather died, she always felt that her missing grandpa in their side "accompany" with her, like a shadow. But this "company" and miss but make her feel lonely, sad, and began to anorexia, headache. Until the girl began to have friends, friendship and family once again let the little girl see the bright world.

I created this story based on my own experience. After the death of a loved one, people around us often try to reassure us with things like, 'He doesn't have to suffer anymore,' or He will bless you in heaven.' But actually, we still grieve over the loss of a loved one, and it doesn't seem to "bless me," as they say. For the living, their death is like a huge shadow.

After writing the story, I found that the focus of this story is "emotional expression", and each stage of the story's development corresponds to different emotions. Therefore, I choose to use large-area color changes to express emotions more intuitively.

After deciding on the storyboard and art style, I used adobeillustration  determine the shape, and then used Photoshop to add texture. Here are some of the brushes I used.

After my grandpa's death, my parents and I have moved into a new house.

I always played alone, in this beautiful and empty house.

He followed my wherever I go. He always took my food and ate more and more. Everyday when I woke up, I found the strange old man become a little bigger.

He could always find me wherever I hide. The new house was just a residence, but not a shelter.

'When will the endless torture stop?' I asked myself over and over again.

In the woods, we met the yellow squirrel, the green butterfly, and white rabbites.

We ran out everyday and we played and played.

Mom came out with a plate of cake.

Wow, it was my favourite strawberry cake. Grandpa used to buy it for me.

Grandpa was gone but our memories were not. Time couldn't stand still because of his death.

I knew it was time to let it go.
